Barcode generators are available in a number of different formats. For the most part they allow a barcode software program to generate a font and turn it into a bar code image. Fabulous, For most of us that will probably do the job fine but using a bar code generator to print $10,000 in stock then you want to make sure it is working properly prior to organizing your print run. Unfortunately not all software programs are produced to the same quality and certainly there is a lot of mistakes in most types of bar codes produced. Some you can live with and some that cause major scanning problems. Depending on the type of bar code symbology you need and what you are printing on to will also determine the success or failure of the printed product. It certainly pays to do some test print runs and double check your proofs prior to printing the bulk of your run. Generally overlooked is also the importance of choosing a color with the right contrast and reflectance to give maximum chance of scanning properly and also ensure the check digit calculation is switched on.
