Barcode Solutions has recently published detailed specifications on the EAN-13 GTIN Bar codes.
We felt this was necessary as some of our members where not inserting the bar code images into the designs and then printing them without following the GS1 Guidelines.
For most customers they generally get away with printing the bar codes incorrectly for one reason or another but for the bigger companies printing bar codes for major supermarkets this is not the case.
Every new product that is sent to GS1 to be tested a verification report is produced which provides a guide to the scanning performance of each bar code. If the bar code master was positioned correctly on the printed material, appropriate colour and contrast used, not reduced or enlarged in size, correct bar width reduction applied for the type of material used and the specific light margins followed, the submitted sample should scan and pass the testing process. As a guide we have added the specific requirements to our website as a guide for customers to use.
