GS1 Databar is stepping up as retailers look at implementing this new barcode symbology.
GS1 DataBar™ symbols can carry more information and identify small items than the current EAN/UPC bar code. GS1 DataBar enables GTIN identification for fresh produce items which require best before dates for example.
Small items like fruit,meat , jewellery, cosmetics. Additionally, GS1 DataBar main advantages are that it can carry app identifiers like expiration/used by dates, serial numbers for tracking and lot numbers. The new style barcode is yet to be implemented by main retailers but may appear on shelves by 2013.
